Mt. Cuba was the private estate of the Copeland family until Mrs. Copeland passed away in 2001. Before her passing, she started the process of transforming her home and gardens from private property into a public garden. Mrs. Copeland summed up the intent for Mt. Cuba: “I want this to be a place where people will learn to appreciate our native plants and to see how these plants can enrich their lives so that they, in turn, will become conservators of our natural habitats.”

Now, almost 20 years later, Mt. Cuba is still undergoing change as it recently doubled in size after merging with the Red Clay Reservation. With 1,083 acres, multiple structures (some historic), and legacy building challenges, what is the future of Mt. Cuba and how are they moving the mission forward? Come hear Dorothy Leventry, Director of Visitor Experience and Facilities, and Steve McCann, Facilities and Sustainability Manager, as they talk about the outcome of the recently completed strategic plan and how it will impact both the adaption and management of current facilities as well as potential new construction.
